I. Introduction.
Include the topic of the case and why you think this case is important. Be sure to relate the case to a business topic, i.e. don't just pick a case because you think it is interesting or politically important (Roe v. Wadeis a very interesting case, but not a good example of a business law case).
II. Facts of the Case.
Tell the story of what happened in the case: the original facts, who sued whom, who won at the trial level, and who appealed the case.
III. Question and Arguments on Appeal.
Summarize the question that the appeals court had to decide and the arguments of the parties on the issue.
IV. Appeals Court's Decision and Reasoning.
Explain what the appeals court decided and why. This is the most important part of the paper. Be sure that your understanding demonstrates that you understand the court's decision and reasoning. Don't just say who won the case; the legal reasoning is the most important part of the opinion.
V. Your Analysis.
What does the decision mean for future cases and businesses and what do you think of the decision?
