Case Question Part 2:
You are working in an outpatient treatment facility with a 50 year old male Bruce, who has revealed during the course of treatment that he has not revealed to his wife the extent of his multi-substance addiction. Prior to treatment she knew he needed help, has been supportive of him getting treatment and has been an observer of his recovery.
Upcoming is the first scheduled session of family therapy with his wife and his 22 year old son who is home for the summer from college. Bruce is nervous and resisting having his family participate in the session and wants to cancel having any family therapy .. although it's a required component of his treatment plan, which he knew upon beginning his treatment. Bruce is very hesitant of having this session, and is fearful of what might happen during the family counseling.
What theory might you use in working with this family - and why would it be the best choice. Support your answer with specifics about the theory you've chosen: role of the therapist, techniques, etc.
