Case Studies for Review

Rodica received the news that she has met all the requirements to become an immigration consultant. She is excited about initiating her practice and several prospective clients have already approached her for immigration services. Because she is new in the industry, she is concerned about handling the following prospective clients:

1) Prospective Client 1: Xi Lui, a Chinese national, would like to apply for permanent residence under the business class, self-employed category. Rodica has no experience dealing with these types of cases. What should she do?

2) Prospective Client 2: Colin Kang, a citizen of South Korea, would like to apply for permanent residence in the investor category. Colin would like to retain Rodica for this matter. Rodica is unsure whether she should inform Colin about the commission that she would receive from the financial institution for handling the case. She would prefer not to disclose such information because she feels Colin will attempt to persuade her to lower her legal fees. Also, she feels that she shouldn't disclose such information because the commission is coming from the bank. What should she do?

3) Prospective Client 3: Maria Gonzalez, a Colombian national, is in a relationship with Charlie Carbone, a Canadian citizen. They would like Rodica to handle their family class (sponsorship) case. Rodica is suspicious about the genuineness of the relationship. What should she do?
