CASE STUDY
It was a rare quiet moment. For a few minutes, there were no meetings to attend, and Daniel decided to pretend and ignore the emails in his inbox. He had been talking to his brother, a police officer in another town. His brother had told him about a bad case in which a woman had disappeared on a trip to a convenience store. Her body had been found that day and she had been sexually assaulted and strangled. The investigation was still ongoing, and Daniel had seen some of the news stories even in his hometown. The woman had been dragged out of her car after being followed from the store, cut off and abducted.
For all the progress Daniel had made regarding improving security, he realized that there was still something of a gap regarding personal safety. He had always been interested in self-defense and wanted to share that interest with the company employees. Just maybe, that could protect one of them, if ever attacked like this woman had been.
He decided that personal safety of any sort would be one way of closing the cycle on all the work done around security since he had started. Of course, security was an ongoing process, not just a one-time process.
Questions:
- What are some of the steps that Daniel can take to encourage employees to be more involved in their security?
- If Daniel's company has operations in a high-risk field, such as working with certain retail outlets or dealing with substance abuse or mental health patients, what type of class should be offered?
- Why should the training be a requirement?
- Add references.
