Nicole is the WHS Team Leader and has been asked by senior Management to create a presentation to staff to provide an update to WHS legislation that is relevant to their organisation. Nicole is aware that this legislation is complex, so that the information will need to be broken down into simple instructions and guidelines for the majority of staff to understand. Nicole is aware that WHS presentations are often considered dry and boring so she reflects on how she can effectively communicate this information in an influential manner.

Nicole creates a short presentation which outlines the new process and explains what changes are required with simple flow charts and graphics. Nicole also prepares handouts for all employees and posters that will be displayed through the organisation and will be on the staff intranet.

During the presentation Nicole facilitated a lively discussion with employees who offered their perspectives on how this new WHS legislation will impact the workplace.Nicole ensured that everyone got to have a say and supported the team to respect each other's ideas even though not everyone agreed with each other's ideas. Nicole ended the discussion by summarising the key ideas that the employees had bought forward and assured the employees that she would debrief these ideas to the senior management team.
