CASE TEXT (for Questions 3 & 4) Shifting Ideologies In the United States, two parties dominate the political sphere, namely the Republican Party and the Democratic Party. In the early days, the Republicans were aligned centre-right, while the Democrats were aligned centre-left. As the parties were initially somewhat moderate, they do in many instances agree on certain issues and able to cooperate on certain matters. However, in the recent decade, both parties appear to be drifting further away from each other. The Democrats, a social democratic party, traditionally viewed as a liberal, have now become more radical. For instance, during President Obama's period, medical insurance was nationalized, religions identity and national pride was downplayed. Daring President Biden's tenure, there has been a greater divide in the social hierarchy, affirmative actions to bolster LGBTQ community, censorship and government overreach such as mandating vaccinations for participation in public life. Critical Race Theory has also been introduced where ethnic minorities are favoured over the ethnic White majority, resulting in a form of reverse-discrimination, which goes against the spirit of the constitution that guarantees equal opportunities for all. It appears that the shifting ideologies were not well received by the American public. The policies of the incumbent Democrat president have been viewed rather unfavourably due to its radical change from the traditional cultural values of the American society. Because government overreach have reached a point that borders tyranny, its claimed ideology of social democracy is questioned, as Americans likened their practices to communist countries like Cuba or Venezuela.
