Case: The Artists Store is a chain of retail stores that sells pottery and other craft items, along with teaching classes. Customers generally spend $45 - $150 per visit. Some stores are located in artistic mall areas, and others are in tourist shopping areas. Some stores are more profitable than others. The company structure includes a corporate office and store management. The corporate office manages the inventory selection using artist buyers knowledge about the art community in their local areas around the country. The final pricing and markdown schedules by item are set by the corporate office. Store managers are responsible for hiring and training store staff and display layout. Store managers do not select merchandise; corporate office leaders select and provide each store with the selection of merchandise offered in each location. Store managers also do not adjust pricing. 1) Design a Balanced Scorecard which includes each of the 4 sections (Performance Perspectives) . For each section include AT LEAST 3 strategic objectives AND a performance measurement targets of each. A measurement must be quantifiable and specific. Do not just use a +/- but instead create an actual value, percent etc. Set the Balanced Scorecard up as a Table or grid. This item should be placed on its own page following your memo in the Word document below. APA format labeling this is as a Table. Your memo should refer to it as such. Copy this into your memo (i.e. do not submit at separate document). Use online searches for examples of Balanced Scorecards set up in table form.

2) Memo: Prepare a professional memo (in Word) to your client the owner of The Artists Store. Do not create space consuming fake company logos etc. Simply create a properly formatted business memo with heading, proper introduction paragraph and closing paragraph explaining the Balanced Scorecard tool in detail, (because this is new to your client), explain each section, the specific key highlight points related to those the team created, highlighting concern for this company. The tone of this communication is not as a research paper but instead as a business communication and should NOT be written in first person (i.e. focus on the process). All writing in this class requires APA formatting including a cover page. Writing Note: seek to edit out the use of first person voice (I, my, me, etc.)
