Passing Grade: 55% Format: Short Essay Overview The purpose of this assignment is to understand how these classifications help criminal psychologists to better understand the reasons for abnormal behaviour, along with what may motivate and deter such behaviour. Your work on this assignment should demonstrate your understanding of and reflection on this week's course content. Your casebook assignment will be scored according to its organization, clarity, use and understanding of evidence, and overall effect. Related Course Outcomes Completing this assignment supports the following course learning outcomes: 1. Discuss various theories and predictions about psychopaths to understand why they act the way they do. 2. Apply conceptual elements of criminal psychology to real world cases and examples. Directions 1. For this casebook entry, select a movie from the following list to watch: o Silence of the Lambs o Manhunter or Red Dragon o American Psycho o Cool Hand Luke o A Clockwork Orange o The Talented Mr. Ripley o Taxi Driver o Mr. Brooks 2. After watching the movie, classify the delinquent/sociopath/psychopath in the movie by answering the questions below. Use specific references to the course material. o Are they a sociopath or a psychopath? What factors led you to this conclusion? What indicators of antisocial personality disorder do they exhibit? o If applicable, are they serial killers or mass killers?o What commonalities do they have with the famous killers we've talked about in this course? o What might be the motivations for their murders? Which "type" of killer are they? 3. Proceed to organize your thoughts according to the following structure: o Introduction - Provide an introduction to the classifications you will discuss and which film you watched. You do not need to summarize the plot of the movie. Be sure to include a proper thesis statement. o Analysis - Answer the questions provided using supporting evidence from the course and your own observations. o Conclusion - Summarize your general conclusions and outstanding questions. This is formal academic writing and should follow the general rules for academic writing. Write in full sentences and paragraphs. Be sure to cite sources using APA@Conestoga or the Purdue OWL website. This short essay should be a minimum of 500 words (or two pages double-spaced) up to a maximum of 750 words. Use Times New Roman 12-point font in black ink only. 4. Submit your completed Casebook assignment to the Casebook Assignment #3: Psychopaths vs. Sociopaths submission folder by the last day of Week 8 at 11:59pm.
