CD 123- Final Interview Assignment The assignment will be an interview with a professional in the field of Child Development. The interview meets the "B" criteria because it will require the student to contact someone in the field and get to know what education they needed to be in that position and how the interviewee reached their position. I would currently give our COR a C for this class. Adjustments have been made to the class to meet the current COVID situation. After the inclusion of this new assignment, I would code this a B. Interview Assignment Purpose: The purpose of this assignment is for you to become familiar with a career in early childhood education by doing an Informational Interview. Instructions: 1. Find a person who works in the field of early childhood education. This person can be a teacher, center director/supervisor, or anyone else that works within the field of early childhood education. 2. Once you identify a person you would like to interview, you will need to contact them. I have included an email example that you can use for the email you send to the professional. Here are some things to remember when setting up an interview: a. When you are setting up an interview you will want to contact the person with plenty of time. It may be difficult for a person to do an interview the same day that you call. b. Introduce yourself and let them know that you are a student at Cuyamaca College. You will also need to let them know why you are calling them. c. If they are open to doing an interview, set up a time that works for both you and the person you are going to interview. d. Whether you are conducting the interview over the phone or in-person, please be sure to be on time. 3. Use the questions below for your interview. a. What is your position? How long have you been in your position? b. What education did you need for this job? c. What was the typical salary that you were paid in this job and in jobs prior to this? d. What were some of the jobs you did in the past that led you to your current job? e. How did you know that you wanted to do this job? f. What recommendations do you have for someone that is interested in a career in early childhood education? 4. Prepare for your interview. This interview is a chance for you to get to know a professional within the field of child development. You will want to stay on track and make sure your meeting starts and ends on time. You will also want to be early to your Zoom or call right on time. If you are using Zoom, be sure to send the link ahead of time, and then send another email the day before with the link and reiterating your excitement for the meeting. Lastly, be sure to dress professionally. 5. Send a thank note within 24 hours of your interviews. You can either send an email or send a note by mail. 6. After completing your interview, write one page paper that includes the following: a. Who did you interview? What is their job title? b. What does a day in the life look like? Was it what you expected? c. What steps would you need to take to get to your career goal? d. What job experiences do you think would be valuable to for you to reach your final goal? Where might you find the information that you need? e. What is the salary range? f. How did you feel doing the interview? 7. Please submit to Canvas.
