Cefotaxime was reacted with chloroacetyl chloride with dimethylformamide (DMF) as solvent to prepare cefpodoxime proxetil, an oral third generation cephalosporin broad spectrum antibiotics. After 3 hours stirring, liquid chromatographymass spectrometry (LC-MS) confirmed that the reaction finished, explain what happened when large amount of diethyl ether was added to the reaction mixture.
