"Ceiling price set for 22 food items this festive period" KUALA LUMPUR: The Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry has set the ceiling price for 22 types of food items under the Hari Raya festive price control scheme. The prices, which took effect on Friday, will continue until June 22. The 22 controlled items are live chicken, standard chicken, super chicken, local beef (uncontrolled in Sarawak and Labuan only), imported beef (controlled in Sarawak only), imported buffalo meat (Indis). chicken eggs grade A. B and O, red chillies, tomatoes, imported round cabbage (Indonesia and China, not including Beijing cabbage). whole coconuts (ceiling price at wholesale level only). grated coconut (ceiling price at retail level only). imported shallots (India), imported onions, imported garlic (China), imported potatoes (China), kan kertwoo including ikan mabung, ikan axatookal (controlled in Pahang, Terengganu and Kelantan only), ikan derwrob /saackcemnounak (controlled in Sabah only) and ikan selayang The ministry's deputy enforcement director, Datuk Iskandar Halim Sulaiman, said about 2 000 premises had been inspected on Friday. "Overall, the traders have been following the prices set by us. We will continue to monitor and conduct spot checks nationwide throughout this period. "Our 2,000 enforcement officers are expected to conduct inspections on about 10,000 premises," he said during an inspection at the Datuk Keramat market here yesterday. Iskandar said stem action would be taken against traders who failed to adhere to the regulations under the scheme, as stated in the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act. Enforcement and price control officers will be in locations such as public markets, morning markets and pasar fani to conduct regular inspections. a.
