Change Project Your capstone project is an evidence-based change project that will not actually be implemented during the timeframe of your NP program. However, the project must be feasible and applicable. The project will relate to a setting of your choosing. The project will focus on an actual problem identified at one of your clinical sites or your place of employment. After you have identified the problem and justified the need for change, you will create an implementation and evaluation plan based on a change theory of your choosing. The project must be approved by your faculty mentor. Your faculty mentor will work with you over the NUR 7000 course (taken over 1 to 2 semesters) to complete your paper and power point poster. Once completed, you will present your poster to a group of your peers and faculty. 1. Paper Option 2 a. Introduction and Background i. Description of the setting, including organizational, staff and patient characteristics as applicable. ii. Identification of the problem or issue you have selected iii. Specific data for supporting the need for the project iv. Discuss how the project fits with the organizations mission and values v. Discuss in a broader context how the project relates to local and global health care needs. vi. Frame your question in the PICO format b. Review of the Literature i. The purpose of a literature review is to read, summarize, and analyze what the scientific evidence related to the issue and opportunity. You have two goals in mind in doing the review: a) to pull together the various articles into a logical coherent whole and b) to apply what you have found to the development of your project. Because this is a graduate level project you are expected to review both the research literature and opinion/survey articles. You are expected to complete a literature review matrix and submit it with the final paper as an appendix. ii. Literature Search: include the following information regarding your literature search: 1. Search engines used 2. Keywords 3. Amount of articles located 4. Criteria for inclusion and elimination iii. Your literature review should be in narrative form describing the following: 1. Overall, what does the research literature say about the topic? 2. What is the evidence in the literature to support your proposed project? If there is a clinical aspect to the project what clinical practice guidelines exist? 3. Examine themes 4. Determine similarities and differences 5. Analyze what you find 6. Analyze any gaps that exist in the literature related to your proposed topic 7. Discuss specifically any advice, processes, and/or instruments you adapted for your project iv. Conclusions: Your final literature summary should be in narrative form concluding with the following: 1. A concise summary of current evidence on the topic 2. A recap of key findings and their credibility 3. Gaps in the evidence 4. Need for further research c. Change Theory i. In this section discuss what you plan to do to make a change to practice. Chose a change theory that would be applicable (i.e. Lewin or Kotter). Once you chose a theory, it will be easier to see how the change should be implemented because you would then follow that theory. 1. Describe what the change is 2. What evidence exists to support the need for the change? 3. Describe the environmental characteristics that will support and inhibit the change 4. Describe the applicable change theory d. Implementation i. Develops a clear and detailed plan to implement proposed change ii. States measurable goals for each stage of the plan iii. Includes specific timelines iv. Clearly outlines role of all stakeholders and participants in implementation of project/change e. Evaluation i. Designs a detailed evaluation plan to assess the impact of your proposed project on the problem identified in section 1 of project ii. Evaluation plan must link to the indicators of the problem identified in part 1 of your project iii. Evaluation criteria must be measurable iv. Evaluation plan clearly outlines the role of all stakeholders and participants in the project/change 2. Matrix a. In doing the literature review prepare a Literature Review Matrix using the following columns as your format (indicate N/A for practice guidelines, meta-analysis etc) i. Name of author, date, title of study, journal ii. Level of Evidence iii. Hypothesis, if there is no hypothesis the question, if there is no question the purpose. iv. Independent variables v. Dependent variables vi. Theoretical framework (if identified) vii. Design viii. Sample: Size of sample, important demographics, inclusion and exclusion criteria ix. Data Collection Instruments/Procedures including reliability and validity x. Results/Finding 3. Oral Defense a. Introduction and Background b. Review of the Literature c. Change Theory d. Design a Plan to implement the change e. Design a plan to evaluate the Change f. Include summary/conclusion for entire project g. Literature Matrix h. Poster Presentation: findings will be summarized in a single-page layout poster presentation i. Graduate level writing style, organization of paper and use of APA format
