The more that children are exposed to spoken Langue, in the early years , the more quickly they can discriminate between Phonemes and recognize word boundaries . Phonemes are Spoken language which Consists of minimal units of sound . At birth babies respond to the prosody , which is the rhythm , cadence and pitch of their mother's vace , not the words. Babies start to distinguish word boundaries by the age of 8 months even though they don't know what the words mean . By 3 years , babies learn to use Grammar , and by 5 years , Hey have a vocabulary of about 200 0 words. Letting a toddler sit in front of a tu does not accomplish the goal of phoneme discrimination , This is be cause language on to is not expressive . furthermore, prolonged watching impairs brain growth in toddlers
