Chapter 11 touches on several topics of training that have taken on even greater importance in recent years. Using the chapter content as a springboard for your discussion, follow up with your own exploratory research on the topics covered in the chapter and engage with your colleagues.

Discuss the following questions:

1. Discuss the onboarding process you have experienced when you've started a new job. If you have no work experience, then ask your friends and family about how they were onboarded or oriented to a new job. What were some elements of onboarding that were really effective and made you feel welcomed to the organization? What were some elements that might have been done poorly and left you bewildered as a new employee?
2. What are some examples of DE&I and harassment training that you are familiar with? How effective was the training at bridging gaps between employees of diverse backgrounds? How effective was it at curtailing negative workplace conduct? Were there any downsides to the training? How might the level of effectiveness impact the organization's ability to attract and retain a diverse workforce?
3. Many companies have increased the amount of safety-related training for workers since the pandemic began. What are some examples of safety (and health-related) training that you are familiar with? How might companies modify their safety training investment after the pandemic recedes? How might this be reflected in their philosophy of 'training is an expense' vs. 'training is an investment'?
