Chapter 12 discussed different aims and goals of sentencing and asked the question, "Is there a point in which offenders no longer pose a risk of threat to society?" This is an important issue for re-entry purposes since more than 80% of U.S. employers perform background checks on prospective employees and many of those may not want to hire ex-offenders. It is often difficult for ex-offenders to overcome this financial handicap, thereby increasing their chances of recidivism.

With concern for both the rights of ex-offenders and employer/business security, safety and stability, how would you advise an employer on this issue? What is the right approach in these situations? Does everyone deserve a 2nd chance? Does it depend on the employment in question? Argue for and against placing ex-offenders back into the workplace. Cite to your outside sources.
