1. What factors may explain the apparent contradiction between the EEOC litigation and the Diversity Business Practices Global Leadership Award received by LOral?

If the award, DBP, and the EEOCs charges are legitimate, what factors might explain the apparent disconnect between LOrals overall values and the behavior of the newly hired vice president of sales, who allegedly discriminated against Head? What could LOral have done in response to Heads complaints that might have circumvented the lawsuit?

2b. Many companies are recognized for positive diversity efforts while at the same time being charged with discrimination or harassment. What recommendations would you make to help companies deal with these contradictions, both internally with employees and externally with the media and constituents? Since simply ruling out organizations as potential employers on the basis of lawsuits or bad press is not reasonable, what recommendations would you make to individuals when sorting out in which organizations to seek employment, given contradictions such as these?
