Chapter 4B Question 1 What is a recent example of high inflation in a country in either Africa or Latin America? What impacts has that had on the economy and marketing?

Purpose: For you to apply the concepts of the book to real life examples. Applying examples is a much stronger learning tool than me telling you an example in lecture. Looking over the outline (or reading the book) before class increases recall of the material covered in the lecture/discussion. In addition, working with diverse groups is an important business skill to be developed.

Pick one of the following questions to answer. Label your post with which question you are addressing. If you are the first person in the group to post you get your pick of the questions. Each person should address one of the questions that has not been addressed. Please comment, especially using your personal experiences or interests, on answers to the other questions.

I am asking you to do two things in the discussion posts for the group.

  1. Show me your understanding of the concept in the question.

Post a definition of the concept in the question. There are some questions that do not really require a definition of a concept, such as competition. Please relate the concept to international marketing.

  1. Reflect on the question and use resources available to you to answer it.

Most answers will reflect information from an article- the link should be shared in the discussion post. You can also rely on your own experiences this is most useful if you are an international student or have traveled internationally. You can also relate information from the lecture and discussion from the In-person class (they will be in the recordings). Among the discussion thread, I would expect to see most posts reflecting information from articles or your own international experiences. Do not post examples from the book.

Discussion posts that will get you full points

Posts that show understanding of the concept- either through a definition or through an appropriate international example.

Posts that explain the country (not the US) your post is talking about.

Posts that are thoughtful, reflective and respectful.

Posts that go beyond the obvious (Do not use McDonalds or Coca-Cola).

Posts that show evidence (When I traveled in Brazil, in the article)

Posts that discuss the company or product your example relates to.

Discussion Posts that will get you only partial points

Posts that show minimum effort such as agreeing with an earlier post, not having a link to an article or other evidence, or that rehashes idea from earlier post without adding anything new.

Posts that do not relate to the topic or address the prompt. If it isnt clear the company or product your example relates to you will not get full points.

Posts that do not relate to International. If you do not explain the country (not the US) your post is talking about you will not get full points. Just because the company is an international company does not make your example international.

Questions These will be discussed in the recordings from the in-person class, so you can hear students (or me) talk about each of these topics in the recordings.
