Charles C$.$ Campbell was a farmer who farmed some $600$ acres in the vicinity of Hanover, Pennsylvania. In the spring, Campbell entered into a contract with Hostetter Farms, Inc. $($Hostetter$),$ a grain dealer with facilities in Hanover. The sales agreement called for Campbell to sell Hostetter $20,000$ bushels of No$.2$ yellow corn at $$1\mathrm{.}70$ per bushel. Delivery was made five months later in the fall. Unfortunately, the summer was an unusually rainy one, and Campbell could not plant part of his crop because of the wet ground. After the corn was planted, part of the crop failed due to the excessive rain. As a result, Campbell delivered only $10,417$ bushels. Hostetter sued Campbell for breach of contract.
