The workload in many areas of the bank's operations has the characteristics of a distribution not uniform with respect to the time of day.For example, at Chase Manhattan Bank in New York, the number of domestic requests for money transfers received from customers, if plotted against the time of day, it will look like an inverted U curve with the peak around 1 p.m. For resource use to be efficient, the available staff should, therefore, vary accordingly.Figure 8.2 shows a typical workload curve as well as the corresponding staffing requirements at different times of the day.
