CHCLEG001 - Work Legally and Ethically

You are asked to develop an appropriate response to the legal and/or ethical issues mentioned in this Case Study.

The workplace health and safety policy was written by the previous Manager. You are now the new Team Leader and you have been told that:

  • Staff were not consulted about the Policies and procedures and feel as though their opinions do not matter, regarding health and safety.
  • Gloves and Hand sanitiser are rarely used, despite the WHS Policy stating hand hygiene is mandatory for all staff, due to health vulnerability of client group
  • One staff member rarely completes incident report forms because he says "paperwork is over the top in this place and unnecessary for minor issues"
  • Hazards are not being reported as many staff say "nothing changes, so what's the point"
  • You like the staff and don't want to "have a go" at them about this
  • Staff to client ratios are low, putting stress on the entire team
  • Bullying in the workplace has increased to concerning levels

You are concerned about your safety and client safety, so you decide to develop an action plan, below, to address the legal and ethical issues.
