Chile implemented some of the first neoliberal reforms in the 1970s. Though the reforms were unpopular, Los Chicago Boys were able to carry them out because they were invited to by a dictator, Augusto Pinochet. Who were Los Chicago Boys, and what did they believe? What reforms did they implement? In other parts of the Global South, how were international organizations like the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) able to carry out (often unpopular) neoliberal reforms?
