China is Australia's largest destination of exports and also the largest source of imports. In response to the Australian Government's proposal for an independent inquiry into the courses of the COVID-19 pandemic (amongst other things), China imposed import controls on Australian coal, barley, timber, beef and wine exports. The CCP also warned Chinese citizens that they are unsafe to study or holiday in Australia due to racist attacks. The Australian Signals Directorate has also indicated a growing number of sophisticated cyberattacks on Australian infrastructure, Government and businesses from foreign governments (or related entities). Meanwhile, Xi Jinping has expressed a determination to re-unify with Taiwan on multiple occasions (using military force if necessary). Tawian's TSMC produces over 50% of the world's semiconductor chips.
