Choose a true Canadian crime novel

Part A of your book club report consists of a 1,000 word analysis of a piece of evidence from your book. It must include the following:

1) The book title, author, and publication data as well as a short summary of the plot

2) a visual representation of the piece of evidence that you have decided to focus on. It can be a picture from the book itself or from the internet - in which case you should remember to give a photo credit to the book or other source you got the picture from. You can take your own picture of what you think the evidence looked like, or draw the piece of evidence. If you are interested in text messages, or bills, or other records - you are welcome to make a reproduction of it through one of the online apps, Word, or other software. It is open - it is just required you provide some visual reproduction of the evidence.

3) a description of what the evidence is, the circumstances under which it was collected, and why it is important to the investigation in your book

4) a discussion of whether or not you believe this evidence was collected in a manner that was consistent with the person'sCharter protected rights and why. In your discussion you should identify whichCharterprotected right may have been infringed and the case law (including legal tests) that support your analysis. You may choose to structure this component of your book report as an IRAC, which is acceptable. If you choose to structure the analysis in paragraph form, remember to state what the law is and apply specific facts from the book to each step of any relevant legal tests to support your opinion.

5) AssumingCharterprotected rights were infringed, would that evidence be admissible in a persons trial? Why or why not? Here again, you need to refer to the relevantCharterprovisions and case law to help explain when evidence that was collected in a manner that violated an accused's protected rights may be excluded. Apply specific facts from your book to each step of the relevant legal test to support your conclusion. Again, you may choose to structure this aspect of your report as an IRAC, but it is also acceptable to write it in paragraph form.
