Class, as you have learned, psychology is a major factor in organizational behavior and is naturally a part of individual behavior as well. I am including a link to an 8-minute podcast discussion I heard on NPR (National Public Radio) by Dr. Art Markman and Dr. Bob Duke on the psychology behind leadership and being liked. The discussion talks about research in regard to what motivates leaders in decision making. Some leaders want their followers to like them and are motivated by that short-term need, while others recognize that unpopular decisions may be needed, but in the long term, followers will understand why and support their choices. Some leaders are less concerned about followers at all and are more focused on being liked by their peers or superiors - other leaders. This in turn influences their decision making entirely differently. Feel free to take a listen and share!
