CleanLiving Enterprises runs an organic food store and has a bank account at
EcoBank. The bank statement as of 30 April 2023 indicated a credit balance of R20
000.
Upon examining the entity's general ledger and the previous month's bank
reconciliation, the following discrepancies and new information were found:
1. Deposits:
A sum of R8500 from cash sales made on 30 April 2023 was deposited but did
not appear on the bank statement.
2. Outstanding Cheques:
Cheque no.007 for R3500 was issued to Organic Suppliers on 25 April 2023
but has not cleared.
Cheque no.008 for R2500 was issued on 28 April 2023 for office renovations
and has not cleared.
3. Direct Debits:
CleanLiving Enterprises has a loan with EcoBank. The bank debits R5000 on
the last day of every month as a loan repayment. The company missed
recording April's loan repayment.
4. Bank Charges & Credits:
The bank statement showed a bank charge of R150 still to be recorded.
5. Errors:
CleanLiving Enterprises's bookkeeper mistakenly recorded a payment of R4
000 as R400.
The bank statement showed a deposit of R3000, which doesn't belong to
CleanLiving Enterprises. After inquiring with the bank, it was found to be an
error on the bank's part.
The Bank general ledger account should end with a debit balance of R10750 on 30
April 2023 after taking into account all adjustments.REQUIRED:
2.1 Prepare the bank reconciliation of CleanLiving Enterprises as at 30 April 2023.
(10 marks)
2.2 Explain the reason for any three types of adjustments made during CleanLiving
Enterprises reconciliation process
