(CLU 3M1) Unit 1: Culminating Assignment Lobby Assignment INDIVIDUAL ASSIGNMENT A lobby group represents or is a special interest group seeking to make social, legal or political changes, usually with respect to one specific cause or issue. To "lobby" is to seek to influence the government to pass laws that would support one's cause, to benefit the organization the lobbyist represents. Task: The student council at St. Marguerite d'Youville has asked you to invite a member from a lobby group to speak at the school. Your task is to select, research and then prepare a report on the lobby group of your choice (see below) to deliver to the student council for their consideration. Your report findings must be through and organized and reflect a clear understanding of the lobby group and the issue it supports. The product you create must be professional. 1. Select a lobby group from the list provided bellow. You may NOT do any group which does not appear on this list. You MUST declare your lobby group NO LATER than Thursday Sept. 16, 2021 (Once you have had your selection approved you can NOT switch/change your lobby group) 2. Research the group selected; using at least 3 sources be sure to find detailed answers to the following criteria: What cause/issue does the group represent? When and where did the group originate? Who are some of the members of the group? (or who founded the group?) *If the group originated outside of Canada be sure to research and explain how/when they came to Canada and who leads the Canadian part of the group.** What are the goals of the group? What change do they hope to achieve? What change in law/social policy (if any) has the group achieved? This should be focused upon Canadian law/social policy Why do you believe a member of this group should come to d'Youville to speak to the students? 3. Create a presentation product that you will use to deliver your proposal to the student council. Your presentation must be neat and organized and contain the answers to all of the research criteria noted above.
