Question:
COLLAPSE
I think I personally prefer personalization over customization. Both are good in their own right but personalization does a good job of continually growing with you over time. For instance, when I watch a YouTube video, the next time I open YouTube there is a video that is similar to what I watched previously. Instead of seeing random cat videos on my feed, I typically get something more geared towards my taste like sports and tech videos. This personalization has an advantage over customization because more than likely I would have to go in and search for all relevant videos I wanted to see if YouTube did not personalize their algorithm.
Although personalization has it's advantages it also comes with its disadvantages. To me privacy is the biggest downfall of personalization. For example, when you shop on a site and buy a clothing item ever notice how ads on a completely different page are similar to what you just bought? This is because you were tracked on the site and ads want to show the most relevant item to potential customers. Since most users don't really understand where their data is going and who has access to it, the potential to be tracked and have your information shared with many companies isn't that appealing of a thought.
