Collette is pulled over for a traffic stop. Police officers see her throw a bundle out of her window. When they retrieve the bundle, they discover it is a large Ziplock bag with twenty smaller bags inside, each containing drugs. The police officers arrest Collette and bring the bundle to the police station, where they tag the evidence then send it to the laboratory for analysis. The laboratory clerk checks the evidence in and places it on a shelf marked "to be tested." A laboratory technician takes the evidence off the shelf and tests the chemical composition of the contents. When the testing is done, the technician sends the evidence and laboratory results to the evidence locker. The evidence is catalogued and checked into the evidence locker by the police officer on duty. The evidence locker is guarded by different officers three shifts a day, each of whom have custody of the evidence while it remains in the locker. Before trial, the arresting officer retrieves the evidence and transports it to the courtroom. We work for the District Attorney's Office, which charged Collette of possession of illegal drugs with intent to distribute.
