Com 100 (Fall 2020) TERM Assignment (20% of final grade) Date Assigned COM 100 WU 005, October 29th, 2020 DUE DATE: COM 100 WU 005 Nov.12th, 2020 at 500 PM This assignment draws on learnings from Chapter 3 (Conducting Business Ethically and Responsibly), Chapter 5 (The Global Context of Business and Chapter 13 (Pricing, Promoting and Distributing Products). You are working as a consultant and have been hired by a company to assist in creating a company Code of Ethics in order to attract more customers to your products and to prove the companys ethical conduct & practices. This smaller, private company produces and sells sporting bags, backpacks, and has now begun to outsource some of its production to Bangladesh to enable a lower cost structure to the company. The initial product quality has been very good, and the delivery of products to your company has been very reliable. You have visited the factory, and while the standards would not be allowed in Canada (including some very young looking employees working in difficult conditions and environmental issues associated with the factory operations), generally the workers seem to be happy with their jobs. Part I Introduction (20 marks) How does doing business in Bangladesh differ from Canada? You should summarize major political, cultural/social differences. (Chapter 5 Global Context of Business). Are there any obvious Competitive Advantages to doing business in Bangladesh? Describe the Competitive Advantages fully. Analysis Part II Code of Ethics (30 marks) Your Code of Ethics needs to address three relevant areas of the Stakeholder Model of Responsibility (Chapter 3), as shown below. There should a minimum of 3 (or more) points to each category that are simple, and easy to communicate for employees and customers; 1. Responsibility towards Customers 2. Responsibility towards Employees 3. Responsibility towards the Environment. Analysis Part III New Product Development and Marketing (20 marks) You are to recommend to the company an additional product that can be made in Bangladesh by the existing factory for sales in Canada. The product should have some similarity to the current products (sports bags and backpacks) especially how it is produced. What is this product, and how do you intend to promote it to customers? What stage of the product lifecycle is this new idea in justify your answer. What do you recommend for a pricing strategy for this new product? Use Chapter 12 and 13 for guidance. PART IV Conclusion (10 marks) You should summarize the findings in your paper stating how you think the Code of Ethics will assist the company in increasing sales in Canada. Might this influence your customers (how?)
