come up with a policy proposal that aims to improve the energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions of buildings in British Columbia. Each student is expected to play the role of a Minister or have one focus area ( finance ) and conduct research and pitch ideas from that perspective. Make a policy proposal (based on the readings and other content studied in the course) addressing how a given province/territory might support or promote efforts to improve the energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions of buildings in that province or territory. An important aspect of this overall project will be active role play. Students in their group will individually assume the role of either a Minister responsible for any of the portfolios impacted by this potential policy, such as energy, finance, economic development, environment, housing, or Indigenous relations; or a private member of a constituency (i.e., elected official, but not a cabinet minister of the government). There is no need to assume a particular political party; rather to represent either a portfolio or a constituency (e.g., rural, suburban or urban) generically. In this context, students will bring to the table in their group planning and policy development as many of the perspectives that are of particular interest to the geopolitical jurisdiction they are representing.
