The law I chose to discuss was minimum wage requirements. The FLSA provides that a minimum wage must be paid to cover nonexempt employees (Cross & Miller, 2021). In addition, the FLSA created a private right of action to protect employees against any employer violating its minimum-wage provisions (Hamann v. Little Italy's Meatballs, 2021). On September 30, 2022, the Florida minimum wage will be $11.00 per hour, by September 2026, the minimum wage in Florida will be $15.00 per hour (Display posters and required notices, n.d). The purpose of minimum wage is to allow enough money for employees to pay for living expenses such as food, clothes, and shelter. Minimum-wage laws are implemented to prevent employers from exploiting workers. As the cost of living rises, the minimum wage should also increase to keep up with inflation.

The service I chose to discuss was environmental laws. Environmental laws are put in place to protect the environment. Some environmental laws include the Clean Air Act, National Environmental Policy Act, Federal Water Pollution Control Act, Endangered Species Act, and Marine Protection, Research, and Sanctuaries Act (Cross & Miller, 2021). The Clean Air Act is put in place to control air pollution from mobile and stationary sources (Cross & Miller, 2021). The purpose of the National Environmental Policy Act is to limit environmental harm from federal government activities (Cross & Miller, 2021). The Marine Protection, Research, and Sanctuaries Act were established to prohibit bumping radiological, chemical, and biological warfare agents and high-level radioactive waste into the ocean (Cross & Miller, 2021). All essential laws help to protect the environment that we live in.

Lately, the agency I chose to discuss is the EPA. The Environmental Protection Agency works with state and local agencies to help fight environmental hazards (Cross & Miller, 2021). They aim to reduce air and water pollution by analyzing data to determine adequate pollution-control standards (Cross & Miller, 2021). In addition, the EPA establishes population control requirements and regulations for businesses to help protect the environment and make it a safe place for us to live.
