1. Comment on the drivers for patent filing given WIPO statistics of top 20 patent producing countries. Is there a relation between Country GDP and the number of patents filed in a recent year. Pick year 2012 and plot the number of patents filed by top 20 patent producing countries against GDP for each of these 20 countries. What do you conclude? Comment on your graph.
2. Is there anything problematic about an economy that centers on the production of services instead of the production of goods? Is a country with such an economy in an inherently dangerous position when it confronts international economic and political competition?
