Regina's emphasis on the importance of her figure allows her to overlook the ingredients and take Cady's word at face value. Maybe if Regina hadn't put so much emphasis on her desperation to lose weight, she would have done some more research and not been susceptible to sabotage." 2."The scene where Regina insists on Cady to sit down with them at lunch is an example of Arbitrary Standards. The scene starts with Cady explaining to Regina how she was homeschooled before attending public school and Regina is in disbelief. Regina follows that behavior with saying, "Homeschooled that's really interesting. But you're like really pretty", which shows how Regina is setting a standard. Cady smiles, obviously grateful for the compliment and then replies, "Thank you", which shows how she's buying into the standard Regina created. Cady now feels like there's a possibility she's pretty since she was complimented by someone she probably deems attractive too, and that shows how an expectation was created within Cady. Regina sees how Cady is blushing from the comment and then says, "So you agree? You think you're really pretty?", this shows how Regina is now changing the standard.
