The mental disorder I have chosen in this module to discuss is schizophrenia. I have chosen Alice from the movie Alice in wonderland to provide examples of schizophrenia. I believe she has this mental disorder because she talks to animals and sees things that aren't really there. Like the Cheshire cat. It will randomly pop up throughout the story and then suddenly disappear. She was also eating things that made her big and small. Everything she saw in Wonderland was whacky and colorful, like someone would see if they were hallucinating. The Mad Hatter would not make sense when talking and Alice would try to make sense of what he was saying. The Mad Hatter symbolizes borderline personality disorder in my opinion. Due to the simple fact that he would have different personalities every time he saw Alice. I have seen schizophrenia firsthand, and it can definitely be compared to Alice. The hallucinations, delusions, mental confusion, and disorientation all add up to schizophrenia. I worked for a group home that had some people who were mentally ill. They all had different diagnosis. I saw a lot of different things and a lot of different behaviors. Just being patient and understanding with them makes it easier for them to feel ok about having the mental illness.
