Commodity Chain Assignment will be done in groups of 2. INSTRUCTIONS: Choose ONE commodity (good or product) that you use and discuss the commodity chain. The commodity chain is the various stages of the product. You must research your chosen com- modity and explore information to map its life cycle. Some commodities will be easier than others to map, so choose your topic carefully; take the availability of information (or lack there of) into considera- tion. Please choose a product that you personally use and are a consumer of. NOTE: A private company, for example, will likely be much more difficult to research; however, I encour- age you to dive deep into the chains of small and local businesses if you choose to do so. Your research should allow you to put together a map or chain (in words) that represents important instances and top- ics. What I mean by map or chain; when I am reading your paper I want to able to mentally visualize a map or a chain of how the product is flowing through the commodity chain. Please do not hand in an actual map or chain. This is an APA style paper. Important instances and topics include but are not limited to the following: Material resources and where they come from Production locations Labor source(s), working conditions, wages, etc. Corporate interests and locations Inputs vs. Outputs Exporting/Importing opportunities and regulations Marketing, distribution/vendors and locations . Consumers End of life issues What makes this chain interesting or important to our understanding of the modern economy. Other categories that may be relevant depending on the commodity This is a good opportunity to use buzzwords from throughout the course chapters. This is expected to be written in APA format.
