Common carriers are usually liable when property is damaged, but they are not liable for acts of Godfloods, hurricanes, and the like. Is this fair? If you send a friend an important item via UPS and the UPS truck is hit by a tornado, who should pay for the lost item? Isnt UPS in a better financial position to pay for the loss? (In the end, the company might well offer to pay for the loss even though the law does not require it.)
