Communication from the time of Christ down to the time of Joseph Smith remained largely unchanged. It was primarily verbal with some levels of written communication. There was a big jump forward with the advent of typeset, as well as the ability to record sound. As transportation and technology evolved, so did communication. What we experience today is vastly different than it was just 20 years ago, and the last 10 years have seen tremendous leaps forward. But it is still just communication.

Your callings and assignments that require communicating and running a church for a year could easily be considered a project.
