Instructions: Find a business and society issue in the news (something within the last few years) and write the report that addresses the questions listed in the sections below. The sections are structured by the "Constructive Epistemology" framework. You may use as a starting point, the class prep assignment completed a few weeks ago, but you may switch topics if you'd like.

Section 1: Normative Analysis:

What are the main legal, social, or ethical issues the case raises?

As you describe the issue(s):

How do those issues impact business?

How do those issues impact other stakeholder groups?

Section 2: Descriptive (aka "Positive") Analysis

What do we know about the case or issue? What are the relevant facts and details regarding the business or industry?

As you develop this section:

Be journalistic: specify contextual details: who, what, where, when. Use statistics, figures, and other details to fill in the story.

Identify any relevant unknowns

Section 3: Diagnostics Analysis

Why (or why might) the issue be occurring? What are the driving forces, factors, or causes?

As you present your diagnosis, keep in mind that typically:

There are multiple, primary factors that influence a situation.

There are also many secondary factors that play a role in shaping the situation.

Some of the factors may be external and environmental (legal, technological, social, economic, etc.) Other may be internal and directly tied to human agency, operational choice, and business policy.

Section 4: Prescriptive Analysis

Who is doing what to address and/or respond to the issue? What has the business or industry said or done? In your view, what are the benefits and limitations of various solutions or proposals?

When completing the prescriptive analysis

Don't feel the need to "solve" the issue once and for all. It's likely that your issue raises difficult, multi-dimensional challenges that can't be fixed by one simple solution.

Take as a starting point what other parties and stakeholders are doing to address the issue and critically engage with those ideas. Develop modifications, alterative suggestions or approaches as you see fit.

Should be at least 2 full pages, typed, single-spaced.

Please include at least three resources or references. Works cited should not be included in the word count
