Compensation data for numerous jobs are more available due to the existence of various websites. The website of Salary.com provides pay data for numerous jobs in different companies in different industries in different cities throughout the U. S. This case challenges students to apply their understanding of the key concepts of internal alignment and external competitiveness to actual pay rates for specific jobs. Choose a minimum of two (2) jobs that you would like to compare the salaries of in a particular geographical area. Example: Clinical Psychologist and Industrial and Organizational Psychologist (you can choose any two or more jobs that you would like to compare. If you choose more than two jobs, keep in mind that you will need to answer each of the questions below for each job). You should compare the salary for jobs in the same category like RN vs Nurse Practitioner, Dermatologist vs Plastic Surgeon, Clinical Psychologist vs. Psychiatrist, etc. Click here to search job salaries: https://www.salary.com/research/salary. Be sure to enter the location data once you have searched for a particular job so you can compare the two jobs in the same geographical area.
After examining the website, answer the following questions in your response:
- Of the jobs you chose to research, which jobs are paid more or less? List the amount that each is paid. Is this what you would have expected? Why or why not? What factors could explain the differences in the salaries? Be sure to include in-text citations to support your research on this. And answer every question listed in this section in your paper.
- Do the jobs have different bonuses as a percentage of their base salaries? List the amount of the bonuses. What could explain these differences? Be sure to include in-text citations to support your research on this. Answer every question listed in this section.
- On a personal note, how could you use this information while negotiating your salary in your job after graduation? What data would you provide to support your "asking price?" What factors will influence whether or not you get what you ask for? Be sure to include in-text citations to support your research on this. This is the only section where first person, "I, me, or my" statements can be used in the paper. Answer every question listed in this section.
