Competency 1: Prompting The student accurately sets up materials needed (1) and demonstrates the selected prompt (2). The student applies the prompt to the target behaviour in a way that evokes the correct response (2). Scenario 1: Prompt type Comments: Scenario 2: Prompt type Comments: Target behaviour Target behaviour Competency 2: Verbal Operants 15 15 The student accurately describes the selected verbal operant (2). The student uses an instruction that would accurately occasion the selected verbal operant (3). Scenario 1: Verbal operant Stimuli Comments: Scenario 2: Comments: Verbal operant Stimuli Competency 3: Schedules of Reinforcement 15 15 The student accurately sets up materials and a schedule for the selected schedule of reinforcement (2). The student demonstrates delivering reinforcement in accordance with that schedule (3). Scenario: Comments: Reinforcement schedule Target behaviour Competency 4: Chaining 15 The student accurately describes how they will prompt in accordance with the selected chaining procedure (2). The student demonstrates properly implementing the selected chaining procedure (3). Scenario: Chaining type Target behaviour 15 Comments: Competency 5: Error Correction The student accurately sets up materials needed for the selected program (2 marks). The student uses the correct error correction procedure, including errorless prompting and fading (3 marks). Scenario: Comments: Error correction procedure Target behaviour TOTAL: /35 15 BST 2036 - Behaviour Theory and Practice: Acquisition Strategies Clinical Skills Demonstration (/35 marks, worth 25%) The purpose of this assignment is to evaluate your ability to demonstrate various skill acquisition intervention procedures. It is not enough to be able to read about, write about, or be tested on these concepts; in the field of behaviour analysis, you must be able to physically demonstrate the correct way to implement a variety of teaching techniques to produce meaningful learning outcomes for the people you work with. Although each individual program will have specific procedural variations, as future front-line workers, it will be important for you to generally know what commonly used intervention procedures look like and how to execute them. Demonstration Requirements Students will be asked to demonstrate skill acquisition intervention skills from each of the following categories: Prompting (demonstration of two different response or stimulus prompts) Providing instructions for verbal operant skills (demonstration of two different discriminative stimuli to set the occasion for two different verbal operants) Schedules of reinforcement (demonstration of reinforcement delivery for one basic schedule of reinforcement) Chaining (demonstration of prompting for one chaining procedure) Error correction (demonstration of one type of error correction for a given skill) Demonstration Format Students will sign up for a 15-minute time slot on one of five available days and meet with the professor 1:1, either in the classroom on a scheduled class day or in a meeting room in the 6th floor faculty offices. Students will be presented with randomly selected skill acquisition intervention skills and target behaviours or stimuli from each of the categories above. Following the presentation of the task, students will be required to accurately demonstrate and/or explain the presented scenario. Please see the rubric on the following page for a breakdown of the grading for each of these categories within the clinical skills demonstration.
