Conduct a first-hand field research on an off-campus local4 business or non-profit organization with 50 or more
Question:
Conduct a first-hand field research on an off-campus local4 business or non-profit organization with 50 or more employees. The research is expected to turn out a paper focusing on practices of the organization in one of the organization theory areas, such as organizational culture, organizational structure and departmentalization, technology application and its impact, and so on. Students are expected to collect data from the group's research site either collectively or individually; data sources can be interviews, surveys, organizational publications and documents, etc. A logical integration of different sources is encouraged.
The theme of the project paper can be any one of the three options: 1) Identifying one major problem that the site organization has in organization theory area in which your group is interested, using relevant organization theories to diagnose reasons and providing valuable and workable suggestions; 2) Identifying one major improvement measure related to an organization theory area that the site organization has implemented in the last five years, and analyzing and evaluating its pros and cons; or 3) Identifying one special issue that particularly interests your group, analyzing the site organization's practices on that issue(s), and giving your advice to the organization as if you were a group of consultants.
QUESTION:
Organization- Stop n Shop
For any of the three options above, the final paper should include (but not limited to) the following parts, although they need not be in the same order:
1) Introduction to the organization's background;
2) Research problem/measure/issue identified;
3) Organization theories/literatures related to the topic; (You may need to find more
articles beyond what the textbook says in your interest area from the library or on-line
databases.)
4) Data collection method(s) and procedures;
5) Data analysis, guided by theories;
6) Recommendation or evaluation;
7) References.
Among the seven parts, 3), 5), and 6) are the most important ones that deserve more attention and more pages in your final group paper.
