Conflict 1 David's Laptop
George has just stormed into your office. He is so frustrated with David for his lack of IT knowledge and
his use of his company laptop. This is interesting since David has just emailed you complaining th
new laptop is always crashing, that it is slow, and he can not access the Google Drive folders. David said
the IT person is useless and wastes his time trying to fix the problem.
Once you get George settled down, he explains that David did get a new laptop two weeks ago, and
initially, there was an issue. The IT department did not realize that on Project Apollo, special software
was required, and it had not been installed. Once David let them know, they installed the missing
software, and when they left, everything was working ok. However, George had also noticed that David
had installed several additional apps on his laptop that were clearly for personal use. Although none of
these violated JKLM's corporate policies, the policy does discourage staff from using their laptops for
personal use. He noted that some of these apps used significant internet bandwidth, and David was
already the highest user of JKML Toronto's office bandwidth. This was not a concern, as much of the
usage was off-hours. George did mention to David that the number of apps would slow down the laptop,
and some of the apps were not that stable. The result has been several calls from David for IT support.
George has suggested that David remove some of the apps, but David claims he needs them to do his
job, and he wants his old laptop back
