Consider a survey that is collecting demographic data. Two questions appear on the survey that appear to be asking for basically the same information - which is how old the the respondent is (see below).

q. 13: "What is your age?"

q. 14: "What year were you born?"

The answers to question 13 are quantitative and will be something like, 22, 34, 56, 75 and so on; however, the answers to question 14 are qualitative/categorical and will be 1968, 1970, 2001, 2004 and so on.

Describe the difference in the types of analysis that might be done on the two sets of responses. What type of analysis could be done with the "age" data that could not be done with the "year" data and vice versa? Why might a researcher want one instead of the other or even BOTH?
