Consider the following workplace research example: Within one company division, employees were asked to create self-managed work groups in order to accomplish an important company objective. Leaders compared task performance of these self-managed groups with performance of different tasks completed in a different division that did not use self-managed groups. Leaders found that employees that were part of the self-managed groups were more likely to accomplish their objectives than those not part of the self-managed groups. It was concluded that every work team should be redesigned as a self-managed work group. Please discuss: What are some limitations/threats to the internal and external validity of this research? Do you feel comfortable with the conclusions drawn from this study? Why or why not? How could this example be re-designed using an experimental research design in order to be more effective? Which experimental design would you choose? Why would an experimental research design add value to this research? How might it help to reduce the threats to validity you identified above?
