Consider the model Painted Desert Challenge in the Computer Science collection of NetLogos Model Library. This model is similar to the Termites model, except that, here, wood chips have different colors and termites gather piles of the same color.

Investigate the how sorted pile construction time depends on:

1. W, the overall woodchip density and

2. N, the number of termites.

For part a) N is a control variable and is equal to 250 termites. Formulate a hypothesis and then run four experiments in which W is set respectively to 20%, 40%, 50% and 60%. For each experiment, use a timer and record the time it takes to construct separate piles of different colors. Run each experiment only twice. (This will be true only for this lab!!!).

For part b) W is a control variable and is equal to 45%. Formulate a hypothesis and then run four experiments in which N is set respectively to 100, 200, 250 and 300. For each experiment, use a timer and record the time it takes to construct separate piles of different colors. Run each experiment only twice. (This will be true only for this lab!!!).

Prepare and submit a lab report.

Deliverables:

1. One Excel spreadsheet that has two lists of numbers, a mean, a standard deviations, and a CV for each row. All results shall be clearly identifiable.

2. One lab report.
