During the consultation process you will need to consult with employees and management to explain the plan and provide supporting information, seek approvals from management, negotiate variations, and engage work teams. This will require you to review/develop the following:

  • Current businesses key performance indicators, goals, and targets - how the new operational plan will affect these metrics?
  • Develop and implement monitoring processes to measure success/failures
  • Develop contingency plans for the business

  1. How will you consult with both employees and management to explain the plan and provide supporting information?

For example - explain the most effective and efficient way to consult with staff and management- how and when will this happen, how often - how will you ensure staff have actually listened and agreed? How can you prove you have advised them?

  1. How will you go about seeking Management approvals including negotiating variations?

Describe how you will convince management of your new/changed operational planning needs and budget? Describe the negotiation skills will you use with management?

  1. Current businesses goals/targets and KPI (key performance indicators) (KPI) and how the new operational plan will affect these metrics? (see page 7 of your workbook)

For example:

How have the business goals/targets changed with this new operational plan?

List the Key Performance Indicators (KPI) e.g., how many units sold (sales), turnover of tables in a restaurant, number of FOH staff ratio, complaints we receive in a month etc.

KPI are implemented to measure if something is working.
