Contemporary Interiors (Contemporary), as a result of its reputation for excellence, integrity, and intention to detail, had become a favorite of many of the new homeowners in suburbia. Homeowner, who had just bought a 1960's ranch house, entered into a bilateral agreement with Contemporary to paint the interior of the ranch house. All of the details of the agreement, including the $20,000 price, were settled over a Zoom call on October 1, following two lengthy visits to the residence by one of Contemporary's executives. The painting was to start on November 1 and be completed by November 5. Homeowner, however, changed her mind and on October 10 sent Contemporary a certified letter withdrawing from their agreement, which Contemporary received on October 12. Nevertheless, due to a communication error within Contemporary, this information was never forwarded to the crew that was assigned to paint the Homeowner's house. As a result, the crew showed up at the Homeowner's residence the morning of November 1. Homeowner, of course, did not permit them to do any work.
