Mathematical content knowledge (MCK)
In this section, you are providing evidence that you understand the mathematics that you are required to teach for Geometry. You need to identify the big ideas and key understandings of Geometry (that were covered in EDMA290 Module 2) and elaborate on your understanding of those ideas and understandings using references to literature.
Mathematical pedagogical content knowledge (PCK)- including possible misconceptions/ difficulties
In this section, identify and elaborate upon (using prescribed reading and other literature):
- at least one effective teaching strategy/approach/action for teaching Geometry including the impact of that teaching strategy/approach/action on children's learning
- possible misconceptions that children might form about Geometry and how these misconceptions develop, informing and validating your writing with references to appropriate mathematics education literature.
- two effective learning activities/tasks/experiences; include the mathematics focus and purpose (i.e., what will children learn by engaging in the activity/task in terms of geometric concepts and ways of working mathematically)
- two effective uses of concrete materials and/or ICT in supporting the learning of Geometry; state both the purpose of these 'tools' and how they can be used by the teacher/educator to help children/students learn Geometry concepts.
Identification and explanation of links to pedagogical and/or curriculum documentation
In this section, explain very succinctly how you see the progression of learning (how the Geometry learning develops), along with any advice for teachers/educators when teaching Geometry - hereyou will look for links to the Learning Outcomes in the EYLF and elaborate how those outcomes and evidence of learning statements could be enacted by children.
Implications for future practice and actions about this content area
In this section, you will identify what you are committing yourself to do in your own classroom/learning space when teaching Geometry; use literature as a means of justifying your decisions for your future practice.
