Corporations have enjoyed the status of "persons" under the law since the mid$-1800$s$.$ In a $2003$ film called The Corporation, filmmakers Mark Achbar, Jennifer Abbott, and Joel Bakan examine the "personality" of the corporate "person." Using psychiatric diagnostic criteria, they argue that corporate operating principles give corporations an extremely anti$-$social personality. They claim that, according to these criteria, many corporations are callous, self$-$interested, deceitful, and in breach of social and legal standards, yet oddly able to mimic the human qualities of empathy and altruism. The film was re$-$made by Bakan and Achbar in $2021.$
