Cougar Sports Limited (CSL) was established in 1996 by Mr. Amjad, a leading entrepreneur from Sialkot. Mr. Amjad had a mission to make his company the leading national manufacturer and exporter of gloves used in cricket.

Cougar Sports Limited (CSL) makes three different models of cricket gloves; Batting glove,
Keeping glove, and Fielding glove. Each glove requires three processes; Cutting, Stitching, and Packaging. The company has limited capacity for each process which is estimated as 6,250 hours, 5,375 hours, and 8,425 hours for cutting, stitching, and packaging, respectively.

The production time requirements and profit contribution for each model of glove is given in the following table:

CSL estimates that it will be able to sell as many Batting gloves it produces, but the demand for Keeping and Fielding gloves is estimated to be only 3,500 and 2,800 respectively.

Furthermore, CSL has already accepted an order of 750 Batting gloves from one of its regular customers in South Africa.

In light of the given information, CSL is interested in determining the most suitable production plan that will maximize the total profit for the company.

a) Formulate a Linear Program (LP) for the above problem. (5 marks)
b) Use Excel SOLVER to solve the above LP and obtain an Answer Report. (10 marks)

c) Make recommendations to the management of CSL on what decision they should make regarding their product mix, and what profit should they expect if your recommendations are implemented. (5 marks)

d) Also make recommendations for the following departments of CSL, in light of your LP model and its solution: (5 marks)

i) HR department: with regards to how should much hiring/ firing of employees should be done in the Cutting, Stitching, and Packaging departments.

ii) Marketing department: with regards to which product they need to focus more in their promotion strategy.

e) Write a note to the management of CSL describing the benefits of using a Mathematical Decision Model like an LP for decision making in their company.
